This blog post contains my research of different genresHere is some research about different genres from movie clip's we've watched as a class before
Film | Genre/Genre Conventions | How did this scene introduce characters, settings and create intrigue? | What did you like/dislike about the intro? |
Extraction II 2023 | Action Fight, explosion, Gun, Blood | This scene introduced it’s characters by making the actor in a bloody battlefield costume, and well as the other actors in black protected uniform used for police in wars, and in a setting where it had looked like they just had a huge fight scene with burning cars and messy roads. | I disliked how they used the part where the characters were already weak, not giving any context about what had gone wrong |
Pamali The Corpse Village 2023 | Horror Ghosts, Murder, Blood | This scene introduced the characters by their behaviour and how the expression of the man digging up a hole for the corpse seemed so casual then it showed that there were many corpses and how he was also hurt. | I disliked how he did not show that much expression and not clarifying if he’s terrified, normal, or psychotic and how he wasn't talking to anyone else showing no relationship between anyone but the whistles |
Uglies 2024 | Sci Fi Aliens, Robots, Astronauts, Magic, Science | This scene introduced its characters with a background check and a flashback on how these characters were even made and categorised. | I liked how the character explains the situation, telling the audiences what to expect without spoiling potential plot twists. |
500 days of summer 2009 | Romance Love, Couples | This scene introduced the characters by it’s background and how how they feel about each other, and by their relationship from the plot | I liked how the intro uses their younger selves making both the characters seems like a cheerful and happy person from the start, i disliked how they did clarify their entire plot yet so we know what to expect now. |
Johnny English 2003 | Comedy Goofy people | This scene introduced the characters by it’s Goofy behaviour with a casual face making the audience feel as if that is how they are supposed to behave that makes the audiences feel engaged and entertained with laughter. | I liked how the actor’s acting wasn’t obvious as he naturally behaves as if he didn’t have an other reason to target towards the audiences. I liked how they used connotations and clumsiness to make the character engage more toward the audiences. |
Self Reflection:
By doing this premilinary research, i get to know more about the conventions to these genres, and what factors have made this genre good for our film opening project in order to stick to our genre as we learn more about it.
